User Research

How does a retail store work?

What does a retail assistant do?

A Retail Assistant works in the retail industry, usually on the shop floor of retail stores. These retail sector workers report to the shop manager and are responsible for selling products or services, handling customer questions and complaints, processing sales, and accepting stock deliveries. A Retail Assistant requires confidence and good communication skills.

Roles and responsibilities of a retail assistant

Primary Research

  • Survey for customers

  • Contextual inquiry and interview, for store assistants & owners

Survey Inferences

  • Customers can find the products easily, but when they need help from the assistants it’s mostly when they can’t find something.

  • Customers also reach out to assistants when they have any queries and, also for the promotions and offers about a product.

  • 75% of the customers wait for the assistant till the assistant returns with the information they asked for if he readily doesn’t know it.

  • Most of the customers felt home delivery service by the assistants would be extra helpful.

Contextual Inquiry and Interview Inferences

  • Need of an error free and easy way to update the new and restocked items in the inventory

  • Every assistant is assigned to handle only a specific work, everyone doesn’t handle everything. So, it would be more helpful for them to show them category that they are assigned to.

  • The assistants should be able to order the stocks themselves by asking the superior only for the order approval. This would save a lot of time and be more helpful in the sales as they are the customer level sellers.

  • A feature to record and alert us when a product is nearing expiry.

Brand Guidelines

The Smart Store Organizer is an app which help you to organize your store’s inventory and help the store assistant to manage them on he’s finger tips. This app will help them to keep the stock availability details, invoices, home deliveries, placing order from the manufacturer, etc.

Logo Concept:

Smart Store Organizer is all about managing the store inventory. So, here we have taken an irregular hexagon shape that represents a store with some rectangles that are in a box shape from top view that represents the various sections in the store and small rectangles that represents the products.

Primary Logo:

Things to keep in mind:
• Whenever Possible use the full horizontal logo, shown here.
• Don’t modify the logo.
• Respect the logo’s clear space.
• Don’t create your own logos.

Secondary Logo:

Use this logo only when you have horizontal space constraints.

Clear Space:

In order for theSmart Store organizer Logo to be clearly legible in the context of surrounding graphics and information, the spacing rule must be followed.
No graphic element which is not part of the logo may be placed in the rectangle area surroundings it. This area, is also called the “area of isolation,” is derived by using the Smart Store Organizer logo’s smaller rectangles as a unit of measurement.
this guide surrounding the Logo helps to visualize the distance and spacing protecting it in a layout for print and digital media.

Minimum size:

In order for the logo to maintain its legibility and visibility, it should  not be reproduced smaller than the recommended size.

Color Options:

Using full color logo in positive and reverse is hard to read on images and gradients, so use one- colored logos.
Using Positive logos on White and light-colored backgrounds and reverse logos on dark colored backgrounds. While choosing the version make sure there is a sufficient color contrast between the logo and the background.

Incorrect Logo Usage:

Solid Color& Gradient:

Solid colors play a supporting role. They are use in copy, to hold text, in charts, graphs and infographics.

Color Contrast:

The words shouldn’t get lost so, we keep these rules in mind to enhance legibility with the base colors backgrounds, particularly in digital application.

Iconography

Use Outlined & Filledicons when creating new icons.
Keep icons size uniform throughouteach layout.

Icon Examples:

Our Icons are modern and filled icons and work in harmony with our design system. They have rounded corners and simple elements.
